Most Track Worthy
Chevrolet has introduced the most track-capable Camaro ever in the form of the 2018 ZL1 1LE. With a racing-based suspension, exclusive performance tires, and aerodynamic technology, the new model sets a new Camaro performance benchmark.
“The track-focused 1LE package offers progressive levels of performance across the Camaro lineup, from the V6 1LE to the SS 1LE,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “But with the new ZL1 1LE, the progression takes a quantum leap — this is the ultimate track-day Camaro.”
In initial testing, the new ZL1 1LE achieved a lap time 3 seconds faster than the current ZL1 Coupe. This is around the 2.9-mile Milford Road Course test track.
Four Key Aspects
Helping the new model achieve this performance are four key aspects. First is its aerodynamics. It uses a carbon fiber rear wing along with air deflectors and dive planes on the front end to generate downforce for better grip on the road.
The second aspect is its adjustable suspension that includes racing-derived, lightweight Multimatic DSSV dampers for both the front and rear. Third are the new wheels and tires. The wheels are lightweight forged aluminum and are an inch wider and an inch smaller in diameter that the standard ZL1 wheels.
The final benefit is its lighter weight. With thinner rear glass, lighter wheels and dampers, and a fixed-back rear seat, the new model is 60 pounds lighter than the standard ZL1 coupe.
The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE will be coming to Suski Automotive later this year.
