Many automakers are dropping diesel engines, but General Motors is doing the exact opposite. The American automaker is adding diesel options to various models throughout the lineup, including the popular 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. As it turns out, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel earns excellent fuel economy and has a few other perks as well.
As competitors withdraw from the diesel powertrain segment, Chevrolet is stepping up to fill the gap. The automaker recently added the 1.6-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine to the Chevrolet Equinox crossover’s line of powertrains. It joins two turbocharged gasoline engines.
The 1.6-liter turbo diesel engine delivers an impressive 137 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. The four-cylinder engine earns up to an EPA-estimated 38 MPG on the highway,* making it the segment leader in fuel economy. The high efficiency and impressive performance make the Chevrolet Equinox even more appealing to families searching for a spacious crossover.
The Chevrolet Equinox isn’t the only model getting a new diesel engine, though. The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze will feature the same engine. The turbo diesel engine will earn up to an EPA-estimated 52 MPG on the highway* in the compact car.
We here at Suski Chevrolet Buick are happy to see the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel getting such great reviews.
