For families that love the outdoors, having a vehicle with off-road capabilities is almost always a necessity. However, many times, truly off-road worthy vehicles are smaller and may only seat up to five. General Motors may be solving this dilemma with an off-road Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon. These models would not just be off-road packages; they would be sold as a specific model variant.
In an interview with Automotive News, Jeff Luke, GM’s executive chief engineer for trucks, said, “We are looking at, for this generation, a more off-road variant.” He continued by saying owners “just love off-roading with these vehicles. They look at this vehicle as more off-road capable” than unibody crossovers.
Both the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are two of a small handful of body-on-frame type SUVs remaining. These SUVs offer better off-road handling and capabilities. If GM decides to make the off-road Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, they would be part of the 2015 model year and would go on sale with the next design generation by March of 2015.
