General Motors anticipates moving forward to develop more alternative fuel options, along with hybrid, diesel, electric, and hydrogen power technologies. Thus, a brand new second generation 2016 Chevy Volt will be showcased this January at the North American International Auto Show.
The Volt is an extended-range electric vehicle, so GM has its fingers crossed that gasoline prices in the States increase. According to Fortune, Michelle Krebs from AutoTrader.com reported, “Sales in the segment (along with small cars in general) follow gas prices–when they spike, sales rise; when they fall, so do sales.” Hopefully, the 2016 Chevy Volt debut will be the start of a stellar year for GM.
The 2016 Volt will have the ability to hold more energy in its battery and have a longer range on a single charge. The vehicle will be able to reach higher speeds quicker and the gas generator will be a brand new GM engine that uses less fuel. Having a gas engine paired with an electric fuel cell makes a car that drives like a gas powered vehicle but is efficient like an EV.
